How I discovered this
I've been specializing in long term care insurance since
1995. My first year at the career agency, I was told that if any of
my applicants were declined, that I should submit the business to a
"sub-standard" company.
I blindly obeyed that advice and submitted an application
for one of my first declines. He was approved by the "sub-standard"
company. A few months later I got a "replacement notice" in the
mail. I called him up and told him that he was not going to be able
to get approved by any highly rated insurer. He told me that he
already had been approved with a standard rate. I didn't believe
him. I went to his house and he showed me the policy. He was
approved by an A+ rated insurer--one of the better LTC insurers in the
country.
I was shocked. But, I learned a very valuable lesson
in my first year in the business:
Every LTC insurer has a
unique way of looking at health history. Just because one top
insurer declines an applicant does not mean that every company will.
